INDEXLED light or NOT? Info about a entry level kit
8 years ago - Sergio Falchi
Dear all, I am not into cinematography but I am asking this for a friend who is looking for a advice and opinion about this HWMART 50 w LED fresnel light kit:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/HWAMART-LED-Continuous-spotlight-SuperQuality/dp/B01M0YMVQ1/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1501115840&sr=8-1-fkmr0&keywords=HWAMART+%C2%AE+3+%C3%97+50W+LED+Fresnel+Spot
He already bought it and not sure if real LED or not...despite of the description in a comment replying to unsatisfied customers the seller said: "THIS IS NOT a LED"... and in the side of the bought lght there is just " FRESNEL LIGHT-50" so NOT what in the photo (enlarge the photo and look at the side writings "LED".!!) Is this a "click and buy " bait?
The light is nothing special and , above all after a while the light become very hot...not seems a LED....
Is a fake to ask rembursement for? what do you think about it? Any experience with HWMART 50 w? THIS is a real LED kit or NOT? is it worth it?
Thanks to everyone...

I'd be very surprised if that kit wasn't full of cynical surprises. I once bought an "Arri-style" HMI lamp from a similar supplier on ebay. When the lamp arrived its casing was lethally live. While re-wiring it to get it to work and also not kill me, I discovered that its flicker-free mode switch was a sham, as was its temperature warning lamp. And its cooling fans were as loud as hairdryers.
I was VERY lucky - I didn't touch any metal casing parts before discovering it to have arrived in an inoperative condition. I'd only flicked its plastic power switch. I was also lucky in that I had the knowledge to re-wire it correctly (it was wired wrong inside the plug AND inside the ballast casing). Fortunately, I was also able to replace the fans with quieter ones. Eventually, after toiling on it, I had a working lamp. Considering the discovered issues, I doubted the glass would be properly UV absorbing, so I bought some filter glass just in case.
My message is: avoid those cheapo China-made lighting kits sold on amazon and ebay, They are con jobs, in my experience.

Thank you Alwyne! I'll report your advice to my friend....I suppose he had chosen this kit especially for price , but if not OK, it'll be better to ask for a replacement, or simply a re -sending-refunding policy...
