INDEXLocation advice

I’m looking for locations near London which can portray a moody/spooky forest. Also any abandoned factories or spacious housing, preferably near or in a forest, or overgrown, but not necessarily as it can make it seem to be there.
It’s for a low budget horror film.
Any ideas? Or ideas on how to find it effectively?

Google Earth. Come really low and explore around likely looking wooded areas for buildings that might suit. Way easier to see from above than the ground. Then check out on foot.
National Trust is worth a look - house outer grounds may have suitable woods and possibly disused outhouses/workshops, even if the main house and gardens are dressed to the nines. Make sure that you can soothe their Health & Safety / Insurance issues before you approach.

Depends somewhat on your budget, but locations agencies have bits of private woodlands which would be ideal. Avoid "abandoned" places as they're still owned by someone and often rather unsafe.
Top tip - an outdoor smoke gun (gas/hot oil type) can make even small copses look amazingly spooky.
