Hello Guys
I contacted various location websites and their daily rates are more than what I make in a month!
So I am thinking of renting three apartments, use it as filming locations and not tell the landlord in case he/she says no.
Legally would that be ok? I will pay to rent the place-.Is it not then my right to use it for what ever I want?
Any information is much appreciated.
Thank you
Shahid

Shahid,
I would at least ask the Landlord / get written permission or in addition in the case that they are agreeable offer them a perk or two and then they might allow you t use them more in the future (I might well like the extra pubilicity) I think people understand generally if they know the context when it comes to film in apartment type locations.
Hope this useful
and best of luck!
John

you're right about getting a signed agreement of some kind.
I got her to drop x amount of pounds. And hey at least I'm paying way less for the two apartments for 3 day shoot in comparison to what the location websites are asking for one 8 hour shoot.
although I have to say UK film location where very understanding. If anyone has a decent budget contact Tim he's very helpful!
cheers paddy

Great outcome - well done! But for future refernce, if there was a problem - damage etc and you tried to claim on insurnace, then the first thing they would ask to see is your location agreement. Being unable to produce such a thing would result in them refusing to pay out.
Always try and do things properly for your own protection.

Sorry guys I should have made myself more clear.
These apartments are rent a night type-usually for businessmen or holidaymakers.
I emailed a few and got a straight up no.
But there are two that are a bit iffy. One has asked if I could pay 3 times as much her normal rates.
And the other has sent me what seems like a generic response asking me to go ahead and make the booking.
I really want to just go ahead and make the booking with the second person but then there is the fear that on the day they might turn up, act all surprised and kick up a fuss.
Imagine how bad that would look in front of the cast and crew!

Won't renting three appartments leave you with huge council tax and utility, etc overheads to deal with? Be upfront, do an honest deal with landlords, see what they can do for something so short (but expect to pay legal costs on each lease anyway).

You could tell the first one you'll leave a deposit against damages, but don't want to pay for damages you don't intend to make - and get her back down to normal rates. Point out you're not Spielberg, but a struggling artist.
Get things clear, get a signed location agreement of some sort for each place upfront, saves hassle on set.
