It depends what sort of location you are wanting, but the best start is just by asking and being honest.

Hi Nicole, I used to work as a location scout/agent so may be able to point you in the right direction. Without knowing your budget or type of location you're after, this is a bit tricky. Generally speaking, low/no budget usually takes some good connections and/or savvy negotiation with a property owner and making sure you're covered by insurance. I would not recommend just "winging it" as some people do because there's a plethora of things that can/will go wrong and they can be very costly. If you have a budget things tend to get easier as the hard stuff is generally taken care of by an agent. Start with Film London - they're brilliant and have lots of info about locations and getting permits and they're a good starting point. Read up as much as you can, there's lots of help out there and most location websites have a spiel about how they work so don't be shy to call them. Get back in touch if you have an specific queries and I'll help if I can. Good luck!
