London Recording Studios with Grand Piano

Hello Shooters!

Hope you're all well :)

I'm looking to record the Original Soundtrack with my own pianist as the last step before completion of my short film.

I'd like to ask you if any of you have had previously used one of the London based Recording Studios with a Grande Piano?

So far I had a quote of £130 for 3 hours session inclusive of all costs. Please consider the price given and suggest me if there are any alternatives you might be aware of.

Kind Regards,

Alexandra!!!

Coming from the music business, I can tell you that is a low price. You will need to budget in for tuning the piano as well.

Available mic selection at that particular studio etc. will also affect the quality.

If the score is piano only, you certainly do not want to skimp.

Alternatively (although I would always recommend a real piano when budget allows), today's digital piano samples can go a long way on a budget.

I've done this at times and a general audience wouldn't be able to tell the difference between a real Steinway and a sampled one. Again it would matter what studio and what brand of samples.

Something to think about.

Including all costs (recordist, pianist, equipment, etc) that sounds like a fair bargain to me.

I'd say it was pretty fair even if you need to BYOP (bring your own pianist). For a studio to have a grand in good nick they're never going to be low end.

I fact I just asked Yellow Shark (excellent studios, with Grand) in Cheltenham what their rates might be, and they said 45 an hour (which includes the engineer) for 3-4 hours. BYOP.
