A studio apartment to live in (small one room place usually), or a studio to shoot in?

If the former, UK law means that short lets - days, weeks, tend to be geared around the holiday and short business visit market and serviced and priced accordingly. However once you can commit to 6 months you into the normal residential market, which is cheaper (though in London, a purely relative term).

Do the maths, but be aware that if you want to stay 3-4 months, then a 6 month rental might be cheaper.

Studio apartment, consider a serviced apartment away from the centre and it can be reasonably economical - remember a serviced apartment will be priced including all your bills and VAT, so you can already see it's worth crunching the numbers if you're VAT registered and don't want to start applying for gas contracts as an individual or body corporate.

I note your background, you can probably look after yourself, so may find some bargains in some of the cheaper areas.

If you want a shooting studio for a few months - are you sure you want London? I know a setup in York which includes 3 stages, offices, power, and accommodation for 30 for around £10k/week
