Looking for a partner/producer to set up a production company.

Normally when it comes to matters of business I scream in horror, turn and run in the opposite direction without looking back. But the more I've been considering my options (creatively), the more I'm beginning to change my mind. Which is why I'm happy to announce I am now looking for someone to help me set up and run an independent film production company. Basically, I need a partner, ideally someone who's very business savvy which'll allow me to concentrate as head of productions, and is just as interested and committed in making great films/stories as I am. Both of us would be co-producers on the projects undertaken by the company, and we would have a collective pool of other creative people to source from, i.e. writers, directors, editors, etc. So if this sounds like a venture you would care to be part of, please get in touch as I've never been more keen, or serious, to give this a go. The sky's the limit. Thanks.

Hi Lee, it reads a little bit like you're looking for someone to do the boring bits! I'm sure that's not the case, but you might find it sounds more appealing if you can specify what the partner gets in return. For instance, do you have a long, wealthy client list which will mean you both draw a salary from the first day? Or do duties involve finding the clients as well? Are you self-funding your productions? Do they sell? Or will the partner be paying into that pot as well, in effect?

There's an axiom 'the director gets the girl, the producer gets the money'. Production/the business side is at best dull, at worst stressful and risky - and has zero glamour (which is why you motivate people with money instead). Perhaps it's worth being clear what the partner can get from teaming up with you compared with someone else or going it alone? It might make it seem more attractive. Alternatively, maybe what you really want is a business manager, or even an accountant just to handle your affairs - they both take a fee or wage, leaving all the creativity to you, as well as all the profit.

Hope this helps a little :)

Is it a financing producer you're looking for? Someone to bring in the money? Or to develop projects with you, creatively? As Paddy says, what exactly are you looking for?

Hi guys, sorry for the lateness of this reply. I appreciate your candidness and honesty, and have realised that I have a lot to consider if I'm to take this forward. As I said in my posting I'm not great at business so perhaps I'm biting more off than I can chew.

It might just be easier for me to work on creative projects with a writer and then seeking outside influences to generate interest in said projects.

Either way, thanks again for the input guys and wishing you both a good weekend :)
