INDEXLooking for a producing partner

Hi, my name is Henry.
I'm an actor/writer and aspiring filmmaker based in North London.
Acting is a tough gig, but I'm not here to write about that. These days everywhere you look, you'll hear the same advice: actors should produce their own work.
This is mostly good news for me. I'm an experienced writer, and video editor. I own a decent amount of camera and sound equipment which I can use it competently enough - though I'm by no means a pro.
I've filmed showreel scenes with actor friends, and have made a couple of short films, but I think I've taken things as far as I can as a one man band.
I want to work on more ambitious projects, with the ultimate goal being to make a short film worthy of being submitted to festivals.
This is where I hit a bit of a brick wall. I'm not a natural producer. My head starts to spin as soon as soon as I think about funding, securing locations, renting props/costumes, hiring freelancers.
I'm not one to shy away from a challenge, but I can't help but think it would be a lot easier if I wasn't going it alone - strength in numbers and all that.
I'm writing this post in the hope that there's some people out there in a similar position to me. Keen to get busy making, but slightly overwhelmed and looking for people to team up with.
If this is you, hit me up.
Thanks all,
Henry

Hi Henry
Actually, I'm really busy so I'll make this short. I have produced a number of things in my life (theatre, short film etc) and I can say that I do it to see my projects happen. What made me do it was the necessity that if I didn't do it then it would not be made or I would have to pay someone to do it for me - and that, being paid out of my pocket, My advice? Build your team! All the best.

Hi Henry - I can totally relate to what you're saying, I'm in a similar boat (but without the acting ability). When I read your post, the first thing I thought was, shouldn't you start off with a (short-film) script? And then endeavour to assemble a team around that? Organising funding and locations would be pretty pointless if you didn't have a project to work on. Would you consider teaming up with a writing partner to put some script ideas together first? And then, when you had something down on paper that you felt excited about developing, you could take the next step, and start looking for ways to connect with others, and access funding, to turn the script into a film.
Perhaps an email exchange with another writer would help you achieve that first step? Or at least help to clarify in your mind what kind of a film you'd like to make. What kind of a story you'd like to tell. Let me know if that's something you'd like to try, I'd be happy to be a sounding-board, or help brainstorm some initial ideas.
Best of luck whatever route you end up taking though :)

Hi Henry,
I'm a Producer/Director with over 25 years experience on TV non-scripted (BBC, Channel 4, Netflix etc). I'm moving into producing scripted films, and would love collaborations with the right people. I'm also based in North London. If you're still looking for someone let's meet for a coffee, and see if can collaborate.
Best, Leila
