Looking for an informal story discussion group in South West London

9 years, 10 months ago - Rhys Holland

I live in Tooting and I'm a beginner to screenwriting. I'm looking for a group of likeminded people that I can discuss all the essential functions that make a good screenplay, novel or just general story and a good filmmaker. I'm basically asking if there is any discussion groups out there with regular meetings specific to writing novels and screenplays that can motivate myself and others to write and make our pieces better? Oh and is it in South West London? If not, would anyone be interested in starting one up with me?

P.s. This has stemmed because I've recently been researching The Inklings. If they can do it, why can't we?

Hi Rhys
I live in Tooting and am interested in a group - I have had a few short stage plays on and am interested in screenwriting. My problem is committing to anything on a regular basis - better be honest up front!

Hi Rhys,

I am a film student about to graduate with a Master's in film-directing from Met Film School in Ealing Studios. I am also a writer, drama teacher and classical dancer. I have been trying to find similar writing/ story-telling groups in London (moved here a year ago). I haven't a clue about writing groups in this part of the city, but I would love to start one with you, if it is something you want to put a conscientious effort into investing energy in. I live in Ealing, so that's as west as it can get. Let me know if you want to think about taking this forward. Best regards, Manjari

Hey,

This is great, I've been researching a bit on reading groups and we need around 8 people, we need to set agendas and meet every 2 - 4 weeks to discuss. We need to set certain agendas of what we will discuss for example reading a book on writing and discussing our outcome and opinions and how it has effected our current script as well as discussing the script as if pitching it then getting advice on places you think are week or where you have hit writers block.

Finally if we are doing this we need around 8 people who can commit an evening of their night for an hour or two every 2-4 weeks and find a place like a library that is a convenient location for all of us.
What do you think?
Cheers,

Rhys

Hi Rhyl,

I live in Sutton, and I'm very interested in being part of a writer's group. I've written some short scripts and some stories that I'm happy to share with anyone if the group is formed.

I think it's always great when people can get together to read each other's work and offer suggestions or just what they think. And it's also handy for people to get together and see if they want to collaborate or support each other in other ways.

I look forward to hearing what you think.

Thanks,
Edozie
