INDEXLooking for an insurance for a micro budget
10 years, 6 months ago - Michael Christofis
Hi everyone.I am about to start a feature and I was wandering if anyone can give me any info on insurers for my micro budget film. As it is my first major project and the first one that needs a cover I have no idea of any brokers and who would be the right one for me.Looking forward to hear your views.

Towergate Camerasure are pretty decent. Talk to them about what it is you need to cover, and what you don't, as that naturally affects price. At a minimum you should have public liability for £5M (preferably £10M), employers liability, and insurance for hired-in kit which also covers loss of hire costs for the supplier. You can also insure cash, cast, abandoning the film because of ill cast, pickup costs for camera faults, cash, all sorts. As you'd imagine, the more risk the underwriter carries, the higher the premium.

Thank you so much Luke. Both you and Lyn have been very helpful. I would certainly get in touch with them.
Really appreciated both your input, guys.

Hi Michael, Lyn has beaten me to it with regard to Essex insurance. They have been our brokers on every Pitch winning film to date (2008 to present) and this year we also took an annual, multi film policy. I cannot commend them highly enough - ask to talk to Neil Harle and say Lyn and I commended them.

Michael, for my four-day shoot short, I used a firm recommended on here a while ago - Essex Insurance Brokers - 01708 524416. I hate money stuff but I had to organise the insurance, so got pretty wound up (insuring in-vision cars, a nightmare!) and anxious but they were so kind and helpful, and explained everything carefully and reassuringly. They are clearly used to dealing with neurotic film-makers. Very good luck with your micro-budget. I am on this track too and hope to hear about your experience on SP. x Lyn

I can recommend https://www.performance-insurance.tv/, they provide all you need for a low budget film. I've used them for a short film (~£110 for one day) and for a feature (~£300 for 10 days, was in 2011 though).
