INDEXLooking for documentary filmmakers for collaboration
6 years, 2 months ago - Ira Putilova
Hi.
My name Is Ira, I make documentary films and music videos. I also work in post-production (doing editing and colour grading). I also write, sometimes.
Long story short, I’m looking for people to collaborate with on my and their documentary projects. Preferably in London, but possibly not only. You might have just started your filmmaking career and want some experience or you might have spent years in the industry and just want to do something new and random. There might be a little documentary you always wanted to make but were too busy with bigger projects and need someone to motivate you. It might be that you have this camera you bought ages ago and couldn't find a good time or a reason to use it. You might have been trying to make something meaningful but never figured out what it was. There might be a billion reasons why sometimes we don't do what we want to do. Let's not think about them.
Let's think about our bubbles. Little and big worlds we are stuck in. Places and people too comfortable to take a break from. Straight paths we create for ourselves without a second thought.
When was the last time you spent a day without your phone or talked to a “stranger” on the street? How often do you talk about filmmaking to people you don’t know much outside of mostly stressful and tiring networking/industry events? How much do you value serendipity on the scale from 1 to 10?
Answering these questions for myself I realised that I want to make some space for something random and different from what I’m doing. Or for similar and specific but looked at from different angles.
Don’t get me wrong, I have projects to work on. We all do. I’m also aware how difficult it is to work with people we don’t know. Thanx to capitalism any communication outside of our comfort zone is an effort.
Anyway, if you feel like it’s something you are interested in - hit me up. If you know other people interested in it - pass it to them.
Thank you for reading and I hope to hear from you soon.
Have a beautiful evening!

loved this. as soon as things slow down a bit and have more time for this I would be definitely in. in the meantime, if a bunch of you gathers and want to meet and talk about this with a beer, please consider me. well spoken, Ira. and as each of you - I am sure about this - I also have a couple of ideas that I would never do by myself and happy to put them on the table for a collective project.
cheers.

Hi Ira,
what an amazing post - totally feel your ideas around collaboration, it's importance and equally the difficulties we face as film-makers trying to connect. I'd love to meet up and have a chat the next time I'm in London or if you're ever up north (Manchester), I have a few Doc ideas I'm passionate about but no experience as of yet.
Send me an e-mail at:

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Hi Ira,
I have been working on London stories over the years as well as planning others of similar themes.
Often in life, the curtain between dreams & reality is nothing more than a wafer and yet the contrast can be colossal.
Human interest, tales that touch the heart and soul exposing our intricate inner workings by placing a magnifying glass over us
like shining a torch into a dark corner and bringing to light the lost, forgotten or banished.
I travel and find threads of amazing stories many that I have wanted for a long time to pick back up following seeing where they will take me.
Let me know if you would like to meet up for tea/coffee and talks of dreams & reality.
Kind regards
Hugh

Hi Ira, That's an inspiring post and it triggered a (rare) response from me: a reply to a call for collaboration.
I have dabbled in doc-making, but my dream film lies beyond my grasp; I can't let go of the particular concept I have bouncing around my brain (my own "bubble" as you labelled it) but it remains a tricky vision to realise. So anything that helps bring a project back to life, for myself or other Shooters, is of interest. I'm London-based and can be reached by personal message or on tony@pocketfilms.com. Many thanks, Tony

Hi Ira,
I would be interested to share a coffee and compare notes, life and film related as well as discuss avenues for investigation.
I write, although I could do more of that, I find ideas daily and am developing some of my ideas. I am entertaining ideas of a documentary and come from years and years ( and years) of professional photography so I learnt from that about managing people and carrying out creative projects and the creative process and plenty about myself.
I am based in north London so hmu if you like and lets see ..

Hey Ira
I love this post, it really reasonated with me. Firstly, because I have lots of documentary ideas and have not shot any yet, and secondly because I really do we are all so busy going down that straight roadie set for ourselves we have no time to veer off into the meadows !
Would love to chat more about ideas and doing a collaboration. For the passion! Hit me up!

I could help with voiceover, and perhaps presenting or interviewing. Have you got a specific project in mind?
Where are you based?

How's it feel Ira? Getting all these people to say nice things about you? No really how's it feel? It would be highly novel for me. I seem to be better at pigging people off. And hey, just looking at the last posting here - a pretty lady describing herself as a 'multi-award Writer/Director (her caps) and she;s ;interested'. Neat trick Ira. Oh and I've got one or two ideas too.
