Looking for help writing documentary

6 years, 5 months ago - Philip Nash

I am producing a self-funded documentary about musicians struggling to make a living doing what they love. I have good access and some interesting subjects to interview. I need help working in a story line and especially in building some tension/peril to really engage the audience. It might involve a little bit of research too. I'm hoping this will be the first in a strand so the project could be ongoing. Will be shot mostly in and around central London.

I'm not sure that a writer can really help you here as it isn't really a scriptable story because you won't have the parts until you film them, and you have no idea what the ending is because it depends what happens to the people you follow.

Your best bet is to follow several people over a number of months and make the story in the edit. You need to be aware of what you might need, and pick up on things the are brewing up. You will need an horrendous amount of footage in order to be able to craft the story in the edit.
