INDEXLooking for PACT member to work with me on TV series
9 years, 5 months ago - William Pryor
For some time I have been developing a six-part TV series with two estimable co-writers. We have every reason to think it is a winner, but then everyone thinks that of their projects. To assist in getting the synopses in front of our preferred production company, the SPV I am setting up needs to contract with my co-writers and ensure the IP is protected.

Is this some kind of obscurantist wind-up? An SPV is a financial industry legal entity more commonly known as a 'shell company' and bears no relationship to writer's agreements. Co-writing and credit sharing contracts are individually worded and negotiated and should cover all known media of distribution such as film, TV, DTV, web and so forth, with clearly defined terms and stated rights to share of residuals. This reads like someone straight out of THE BIG SHORT trying to get into fan fiction teleplays...
...Obscurantistically yours!

No, Ed, not knowingly obscurantist. Maybe innocently. I am a writer (and entrepreneur) who needs to become something of a producer which is tricky for a film industry outsider. I see from your website that you are a professional prankster.

There's a lot of ground to cover William, it'll be a journey, we all learn as we go. The way you become a producer is by producing stuff, so it's not as closed as it may initially appear!
You don't need a PACT member, or you can join yourself if you do. What it sounds like you need is a media lawyer, but you can always start off with a plain English agreement about rights at this stage.
What you'll need more than anything will be money, if you can get money you can get everything else quite readily ;-)
