Looking to film in a Prison Cell (could be at magistrates court, police station etc.)

6 years, 5 months ago - Rob Howgate

Hi there,

I'm helping to produce a low budget feature and one of the script's scenes involves filming in a police station hallway and in a cell. Has anyone had experience of filming in this type of location? Or have any suggestions ? Ideally Northampton/ Milton Keynes but will travel. Small crew, low budget. Let me know if you can help? Thanks!

Hi Paddy, does look good, London based but that's doable. Have you filmed there before? Any idea of costs? I can contact them directly of course but be good to get any "user experience" - and thanks a lot!

Gloucester Prison might be an option.

It closed a while back and there are works going in parts but it's a HUGE site and Gloucester City Council is VERY film friendly, so if they have what you want and it works from a health and safety issue, you might not only get, but for little/no money.

I've not shot there, it'll be open to negotiation with the agency, give them a call. Probably a few hundred quid a day, less for a week, etc.

Their admin fee is £295 alone so you're probably looking at a few thousand per day.

I'd filmed a police cell type scene it what was an old police museum before. That was in Hove Sussex but there might be similar things in your area if you do some digging.

Steelhouse Lane in central Birmingham is available for filming. Think its a £1k a day fee. Talk to Sindy and team at www.FilmBirmingham.co.uk

Thanks all, appreciate the feedback. Birmingham looks the best bet due to location but all replies gratefully received. Keep shooting!
