Mac Pro CPU upgrade

9 years, 11 months ago - Robert McGowan Camera-operator-london.co.uk

I'm looking to upgrade the CPU's in my Mac Pro 2010.
It's currently 2 x quad @2.40 GHz (8 processors)

I can get 12 processors (up to 3.66GHz) in there with 2 x CPU's, has anybody done this?
Can you point me in the direction for actually buying the processors, I've seen some advertised on eBay, and also other tech shops, but wanted to be sure I'm getting the correct hardware.

Any help appreciated.

This is totally doable up to 2x 6-core fastest units.
I've seen local providers doing this, not sure about UK.
Here in Poland an upgrade to 2x 3.46 GHz Hexa Core 12MB cache L3, QPI 6.40 GT/s with Turbo Boost 3.73 Ghz costs about GBP 650.00. Maybe would be even worth it to ship your unit.

This company sells parts as well as refurbish and upgrade mac pros. You can even rebuild an old mac pro to be more powerful than the new mac pros. Apparently fitting new CPUs is tricky without breaking the board, but a new board with everything on already is easy.
