Manfilms

Obviously a lot of cinema is gender specific, or targeted at various audiences. I know Transformers is meant for children, most rom-coms are targeted at women, and most 'action' movies are actually meant for teenage boys, but a film the other day for me thinking about 'man' movies.

I watched 'Locke' which is gloriously free from explosions or screen candy, and the hero's journey is contained within the motorway system. Far more gripping than most films I've seen recently (I've seen a lot of films recently) as it touches classical themes of not wanting to repeat history and the hero taking responsibility for his actions (man motifs). It seems to have divided reviewers a little often along gender lines, those who identify with the character and those who can't.

Well worth a watch if it is showing near you, and very impressive for such a short/economical production period).

Most 'man' films are really teenage boy films, or family films. I'm trying to think of others that go for the same niche, and they're less common - can you think of any? Maybe 'Irreversible' as that was also about motive. Possibly 'Memento'?
