Mixing 30fps and 25fps footage

10 years, 1 month ago - Adeline Royal

Hi there,

I have to film a concert and I have been asked to use GoPros, I wanted to buy the HERO, it films 1080 30fps, can I edit later with 25 fps footage from Canon Mark ii?

Many thanks for your help,

Adeline.

Some NLE's handle it flawlessly, others will put up a fight. It'll come down to which you're using.

For anyone else interested. Premiere Pro can handle multiple frame rates in a single sequence.

When exporting the video make sure you check 'frame blending'. I find this helps smooth out any stuttering or jumping caused by going from 30p, or 60p to 24p etc. Premiere does a good job of converting the frame rate so that it feels like 24p.

Thanks a lot for the feedback, I have been told GoPro allows to change the setting to 25fps in which case I think there should not be a big problem.

Thanks again,

Adeline.

You can but you'll get a speed change from one (which will screw with your sound) - depends on what sequence settings you start with in your editing program. BUT - tbh, it's not ideal. It's not just the changes in speed you'll have to deal with but also the two different looks the two different cameras will give you. Talk to your editor for specific guidance.
