Would love a canon 5d but need camera for under £1000.

Hayley, I think 5d mk 2 are around £800 body only EF mount lenses can be £500 5ds are popular amoungst some Sp filmmakers and its a v good still camera anyway.

DSLR's aren't optimised for moving images, so it's a compromise. They have big sensors, but awkward form factors and limitations with recording times etc.
Anyway, the Cannon DSLR range are popular for certain types of filming, I'd suggest a 550D is going to be a lot cheaper than a 5D and have many of the advantages at a lower price point. The difference between the two will only show up in the video you've shot once you've been working with it for a good while and frankly can probably afford the upgrade by then! 550D is an older model now, so you are likely to find it inexpensively.
