Music Copyright request

6 years ago - Matteo Valentini

Hello everybody,

Does anybody know how to ask for permission to use copyrighted songs in your short?
We have the budget to pay, we just don’t know where and who to ask basically. There is any library online or any website where you can request this?
Thank you very much

This is the official way - https://www.prsformusic.com/licences

Or I suppose you could try asking the artists directly and see if they will allow it for free. If they like your film, they may say yes.

If you don't have specific music pieces in mind, you could join Artlist, where for around £100 (I think) you get a year's membership and any of their music you acquire (at no extra fee) in that period you can continue to use in the work you bunged it into, even after your membership expires.

I've used Artlist myself. And there are other sites like it, such as the well-rated https://www.musicbed.com/

Find the music publisher for the song, which should be easy enough. Go to the publishers website and get the phone number, then call the sync department of that publisher and have a conversation about licensing the specific song.
