Hi, I'm Thomas from WM Sync.
Our company provides music for use with film, TV & online video. Currently we're developing a music library where filmmakers can easily licence music for their film projects.
As part of our research, we've created an anonymous survey to find out more about the habits of filmmakers when licensing music for film. We're reaching out to the Shooting People network to find out what the filmmaker community wants from a UK based online music library.

We want to provide filmmakers with incredible music, in the simplest and fairest way possible, this is why we have a simple 4 category pricing system (not using the PRS rate card) where you can instantly purchase the correct licence for your project.
Our aim here is to create an open discussion between filmmakers, editors, directors and music professionals, to find out how we can provide a solution to one of the most difficult and time consuming parts of most film projects - music licensing.

I'd urge filmmakers to ask how much of the fee goes to the composers and musicians! I'm not down on library music per se, but as a composer I'm happy to shortcut any difficult and time-consuming music licensing issues through a very quick conversation!

Thanks for your contribution to the discussion.
You've raised a great point regarding composer fees and let me reassure you that our library is very fair. As WM Sync is ran by composers who have music placed in various libraries throughout the industry, we're well placed to create a fair and appreciative community where composers can create and be rewarded for their work.
