Can anyone recommend a music licensing agency with innovative works where the price is right? Preferably ones that you have used in past.

Why not give Scottish classical composer Stuart Mitchell a try. His works are regularly played on Classic FM and he has a library of original music ready to license. Currently scoring documentary, The Grounded and has been commissioned to score/arrange composition for a tribute to Carlos Jobim. Check him out on http://stuart-mitchell.com/

I am a NYC based composer. I also control a library of my original music. This includes 200 cues for orchestra and other instrumental ensembles - all recorded with live instrumental groups and spanning a broad expressive and stylistic range. Also, there is world music, music for rock band and electronics.

the library can be found under the "licensing" link of my website. Prices are negotiable.

Record-Play runs a library of music from independent libraries and publishing back catalogues. We're on over 6,000 songs now - all the songs are pre-cleared and based on a rate card, too.

There are lots of great composers who are ShootingPeople members, many of whom would love to collaborate on visual media projects.

Much as stock music sometimes has a role, if you want "innovative" then why not try and find a composer who's showreel suggests they can write the type of music you feel is right for your project?

Otherwise library music by the likes of Big Screen Music and Universal Publishing is extremely cost-effective, especially if the project is non-commercial. Rates ramp up for cinema releases, TV commercials etc., but for smaller independent projects library music is a very inexpensive way to access exceptionally high quality content.
