Need a new laptop, what is best for a filmmaker?

My netbook is dying so I need to get a new laptop; rather than forking out for an expensive macbook, I figured I could spend the same but get a laptop and some extras.

Can anyone tell me which laptop I should get and more importantly what software/accessories should I get for it?

Any modern half-decent laptop will run lightworks (free, pro-grade). You might want some kind of card reader (although many laptops can read SD cards natively), maybe make sure you've got a USB3 port if you're copying large amounts of data to a USB3 external hard drive.
