INDEXON THE HUNT FOR A LOCATION: Sea-side Caravan Park
4 years, 3 months ago - Marc Hardman
I'm on the hunt for a sea-side caravan park location. South East England ideally but casting my net wide at this stage.
Older, dated caravans would be a bonus.
Has anyone any knowledge of, or links to such a location? Filmed in any recently that fit the bill? All help and suggestions much appreciated. Please give me a shout!

Hi Marc, there’s a caravan site called Walnut Tree in West Wittering. Not sure if it’s old and dated or if they allow filming down there. Just to know I used go there on holidays as a kid :)

Hi Marc,
I have a cottage in Whitstable and there are several caravan parks on the edge of the sea. Funnily enough I’ve a comedy script based in such a location I’ve been wanting to shoot for some time. Do you want a collaborator?

Hey Phil, Thanks for the reply and good to know about Whitstable. Thanks one of the areas I've been looking into. I'd love to know more about your script too. Is it a short? A feature?
Best,
M

You may hit an issue this summer - it's peak season in a year when people can't go overseas! That probably means paying retail if they allow you to film at all.
If you can wait until winter, you'll probably have a lot of choice at better prices. Hi-De-Hi was all shot off-season for instance, since peak season is expensive, even for TV.
All the holiday (non-residential) caravan parks must shut for 6 weeks a year (although often longer) to make sure they're not residential for tax purposes.
Anyway, have a chat with somewhere like Durdledoor and off-season I'm sure they'll be interested. Otherwise there are a lot of smaller private caravan parks, just go to a seaside town like Weston-Super-Mare/Brean/Sandy Bay and knock some owners doors.

Thanks Paddy,
Yes I'm actually enquiring way ahead of time and looking to shoot end of season as we will probably need three or four caravans together! Thanks for the ideas. I will definitely look into them.
Best,
M
