What do I think of 2013 Oscars? This year they're all so seriously worthy and sleep-inducing seriously boring (even Les Mis - but more of that later). The big guns have got it wrong, wrong, wrong in this past year as to what people want in this time of austerity. What we want is escapism, not navel searching. Where's the FUN anymore? If you want a better balance go East, not West - at least they know how to enjoy themselves there. Have you seen some of the films coming out of China and S Korea? And of course, good old Bollywood. Don't necessarily get it to western tastes, but there's an excitement there. Ahh, but Les Mis - they deserve to win EVERYTHING for having the guts to take such a much loved and well-know musical and to improve on it. Can you imagine how badly it would have been panned if they'd trampled all over people's closely held dreams! Now that would have hurt. Far more than my bum did sitting watching Lincoln.

Maybe because BAFTA didn't nominate Spielberg?

I must say this is a good year for films. Not just special EFX blockbusters, or the little art films no one has seen. A good mix and plenty. That's why some are left out.

I'm glad Affleck got Best Director in Golden Globe since the Oscar won't nominate him. You go Ben!

You want to talk Bafta's? Then start a discussion negative Nancy.

I am routing for Django even although it has no chance. I may even put a bet on it. I think Lincoln is going to win, the only film I haven't seen is Beasts of the Southern Wild. Tarantino never wins an Oscar for best film then so be it, he doesn't need one. Life of Pi is my second favourite of the bunch, really got to emotionally and didn't leave me for a few days.

Anyone notices that "Silver Linings Playbook" is the least talkabout among filmmakers but is the most "hyped" film this year? It's an OK/average film but gets all this "attentions." Well, Weinstein, good job again on your marketing monster machine. Anyone remember the year that "Shakespeare in Love" beat "Saving Private Ryan?" Really??? I suppose we're all bipolars!

And why, in this country, are we discussing the Oscars and not the BAFTAs? And where is the beautiful Quartet in all this, without a single nomination? If you want a great foreign film, choose Barfi where Borat meets Slumdog. There ARE some great films but they haven't been nominated!
