INDEXPrecise software for 35mm Film grain?
2 years, 3 months ago - Raphael Biss
Hello everybody!
I wondered if anyone knows where I can find precise software to add 35mm grain and look to my footage.
I'm looking for something precise, in the same vein as FILM CONVERT but with more options than the ones they have.
https://www.filmconvert.com/features/film-stocks
Ideally I'm looking for a digital map for the KODAK Eastman Color SP 5383 negative.
Thanks a lot!

Would this be a case of using film grain LUT perhaps? You might be able to find something free online

Da Vinci does this very well and specifically for 5383 but you need the studio license version $250 ornit comes with black magic kit purchases. Darren Mostyn has a brief turorial on YouTube which shows what the combo of Da Vinci 5383 lut plus the film grain options will give you. It's called 'Why do my film luts look bad - 5 minute solve'

Amazing! Thanks a lot!
Yeah, I saw some guys also emulating the Eastman look with LUTS. really useful stuff and I may go with that perhaps. I wondered if there was one specific to the grain as well but I guess that's quite dependent on a lot of things.
Thanks for your help.

I’ve used the DaVinci Resolve film grain before. Works very well and allows size and amount of grain to be applied as well.
