Printer for printing onto DVDs

13 years, 5 months ago - Mark Birbeck

I'm sure this gets asked occasionally but I couldn't find an up to date post about it. Can anyone recommend a reasonably robust printer for home use that can print directly onto discs? I sometimes have to do a run of 10-20 DVD copies and would like to do them in house rather than pay for duplication. Ink jet is fine. Had a good little Epson a couple of years ago but it packed up. Ideally up to £100. Thanks people.

I use a Canon iP4500 that I bought for £20 on Ebay. It takes 5 ink cartridges available in Lidl for about £3 ea and makes very nice results. It has a dedicated DVD tray arrangement and associated computer utility for label printing. If you buy a more recent model you will get less chance of finding the cheap cartridges! The industry is geared to selling very cheap printers and making money on the ink.
The main problem with inkjets is gumming up due to under-use and neglect. This Canon has an easy to clean print head and there is loads of relevant info on the Web.

I've always used the Canon Pixma range, an old IP4300 I've had for 5 years is still printing DVDs. It's outlasted loads of Epsoms and printed 1000s of DVDs! Also it still prints if one ink runs out which a lot of other printers do not.
