INDEXProduction manager / Producer courses in London
9 years, 1 month ago - Rebekah Renford
Hi everyone
Recently I signed up for this course on Production Managing and Producing at the London Academy of Media Film and TV to find out that it has either gone out of business and is still taking money or is a complete scam as I arrived to find nobody there and nobody answering the door or phone calls: https://media-courses.com/Course/TVProductionManagerFilmProducerTrainingCourse/.
So first up, a warning not to pay for any courses from them!
I've been looking for replacement options and come across the London Film Academy offering a one day 'Producing: Production Management' course so after the last experience just want to see if anyone knows anything about the London Film Academy or if they've done a course there before. Are they good or worth trying out? Here's the link: http://www.londonfilmacademy.com/courses/producing-production-management.asp
Thanks so much!
Rebekah

My suggestion would be to save your money and to use it instead to get work experience in a production office, ideally as an accounts assistant. You simply CANNOT become a PM with a one day course, no matter what you do, you'll benefit far more from being immersed in some productions, keeping alert, asking questions, making notes. Accounts assistant jobs get very few applicants compared with any other, but it's right at the very centre of the production, you see the whole budget, you see money coming and going and learn where, when and why.

Thanks Paddy - I definitely understand and I know a lot of this is learned on the job. Some of it I've already learned and know as I've been a project manager on and assisting small film productions for a few years now. This course would be done through my current employer as they want to send me on some training for a bit more knowledge of some of the in-depth details. We do marketing films rather than feature films so it's a slightly different scenario, but I definitely have been trying to get more involved with other projects as often as possible around my day job. :)

Well, if you want to do a couple of days interning in my production office you can get an insight of the reality of features if that helps. Shooting from Sunday for 5 intense weeks...I very much hope at least...

Hi Rebekah, I am sorry to hear that the London Academy of Media Film and TV has gone out of business! I did a documentary filmmaking course with them back in 2013 and I was quite happy with it. I have studied at LFA last year and they are a good school, I agree with Paddy that you won't learn a job in one or two days, but these short courses are definitely good for networking and have a general idea of how things work without spending a fortune :)

Thanks everyone for your help! Definitely along the lines I had expected. :)
@Paddy -- I notice you're located in Bath. I'm in London, but if there's ever any production things in London that you could use a pair of hands to help out definitely let me know. I'm of course tied to my day job 9-5/Mon-Fri, but would love to try and get more experience around this so will try to make things work if you happen to require a runner or a production assistant at any point even if only for a day or two. :)

Hi Rebekah I've got a feature around West London right now, and this weekend it's either going to come off the rails spectacularly through lack of cashflow, or we start production and will be shooting Sunday, spending about £15000/hour if you amortise the budget over the shooting time - so there's a busy production office at the moment!

Hiya,
5 weeks...if we ever get started...cashflow is horrid and knocked us back by 2 days today but if it all actually goes, I'll have a weekend in a week or two - drop me a PM around then if interested

The owner is a scam artist called Tony Parkin and he collects the money from Bali Indonesia so that he can't be arrested for this criminal acts and also a variety of other scams.
