INDEXProfessional Filmmakers needed for Q&A
8 years, 8 months ago - Dan Andrews
I am looking for Media Industry Professionals to come into Weston College and take part in a Q&A session with BTEC Media
Production students (aged 16-19).
If you have any professional experiences, stories and advice on what to do/not to do, to get into the elusive Media Industry and you're passionate about sharing these expriences with the next generation of film makers, then I would love to hear from you...
It would only take 1 hour of your time and you would have a chance of shaping the future of young eager filmmakers.
The Q&A would be held in Weston College in Weston-Super-Mare infront of approx 30 students.
This is a non-paid opportunity, but all expenses will be covered (plus I will throw in a coffee and a donut).
This would also be a perfect opportunity to meet and recruit a host of willing runners for free, who would love the chance
to gain any work experience opportunities on your next project.
Please contact me on Daniel.andrews@weston.ac.uk if you are interested
Thanks
Dan

Hi, as a media industry professional, and one with a genuine passion for honest and practical media education, my first piece of advice to your students is not to work for free.
I must admit I am shocked, not so much that an educational institution is requesting media professionals attend to give yoyr students our valuable time and advice for free, but especially that you are offrering their time for free and encouraging us not to pay them.
Fine, it's an unfortunate reality that it happens, and I have in the past both worked for free, and requested help for free. But the assumption und almost unapolagetic attitude that writes requests like this, especially considering your position of influencing their attitudes makes me angry.
Not only are you encouraging exploitation and harmful industry practices, you are encouraging potentially illegal practices too.
If this is how the next generation of media industry professionals is taught to think, they will spend their life wirking for peanuts. Or donuts.
