Professional Light Meter Vs. iPhone App?

I was curious if any cinematographers have tried using iPhone apps like Lux, Pocket Light Meter and myLightMeter, and seen how they compare with professional light meters? I'm thinking about trying my hand at shooting on film someday, and wonder if I should shell out money on a light meter or save a bit on an iPhone app that performs on par.

Those Iphone apps are quite good. However, in general I light with a Spot meter. Its what I'm comfortable with. I also light with a meter when shooting digital as well as film; never light off the monitor.
