Professional Script Reader sought

2 years, 5 months ago - Alwyne Kennedy

I'm looking for an experienced script reader with good industry connections.

Some months back, I set about turning a feature script of mine into a TV series. Consultants said the feature script was "rich with possibilities", hence I decided to expand it, adding back stories and doing extensive rejigging.

I think I've done most of the heavy lifting now, having finished the first three episodes and two thirds of the fourth episode. I know how the next few episodes will go, and can use much of the feature script material for the final episodes.

I'm not looking for a detailed report. I'd just like some feedback from an industry professional, as I've lost momentum a bit and feel it might add impetus. Being a bit skint these days, I can only offer £100 for the service.

Hi Alwynne,

I work as a script reader for Playground Entertainment (Chimerica, The Undeclared War, Maigret). I'd be happy to read your pilot and give you a 1 page analysis and a 20 minute Zoom consultancy afterwards. Feel free to email me at mariella.hudson@gmail.com.

All the best,
Mariella

Hi, Alwyne,
I can only speak from my experience. More and more script readers have memorized Save the Cat, Sid Field, John Truby and Robert McKee and issue tick-box script reports,.
Out of all the script analysis services I've used, the one that I've found the best is Coverage Ink [coverageink *dot* com], whose analysts evaluate scripts both in terms of "studio acceptable" and if the writer achieves what they set out to achieve.
Always are two major issues:
A. Formatting
B. Content
Formatting is the one writers often focus more on, and is indeed the one studio readers focus on first, as it's easy to toss one of the 200,000 spec scripts [WGA estimates] floating around LA at the moment into the pass pile for minor formatting infractions.
I always have CI do one analysis for structural issues, and the second for analysis and markup.
If you do go with CI, mention to Anna that Shiva recommended you.
Wishing you much, much luck with your series.
