Project in 24fps with 23.976fps footage

1 year, 4 months ago - Giulio Gobbetti

Hello everyone,

I thought I would once more resort to the community to ask a framerate question!

I'm starting to shoot a feature documentary that is intended for theatrical release, so the instinct is to shoot at 24fps.

However, throughout the last few years, we shot a lot of research material that will likely (at least in part) end up in the film. All that material was shot in 23.976fps, as the camera we shot with at the time was not capable of pure 24fps.

Now for production we have a better camera, so my question then is, considering the output will be in 24fps, is it best to shoot the great bulk of the film in 24? Or should we stick to 23.976 to avoid mixing framerates on the timeline?

I hope people a bit more "technical" than me can help me with this one! Thanks, everyone!
