Prop - Revolver

11 years, 9 months ago - Sam Jeffreys

I'm making a short film the week before Christmas and the script calls for a revolver. I need something that looks realistic and works pretty much like the real thing (except for shooting bullets!). There's a semi-Russian-roulette scene where the cartridges are emptied out (though obviously we can cheat this) and the cylinder is spun before each 'click'. Does anyone have a suitable replica/realistic toy that I could borrow? Willing to pay a suitable fee. Thank you!

I've got just the thing. A 38. It has the hammer and the cocking and firing action work. No bullets, and it's deactivated. You can spin the chamber and shut it (though the action is a bit jammy as the deactivation means it doesn't actually lock into place). That might mean a few takes to get the Russian roulette effect. It is completely lifelike, not sure whether it was a real gun or a starter pistol in its former life. You also don't need any kind of permit for it as it is considered a 'replica' and not a firearm. And, one filmmaker to another, you can have it.

Thanks guys. Sorry I didn't reply earlier, Jeremiah - somehow managed to miss the message - I'll send you a message. And thank you for the info, Dan. I guess I'd been reading out-of-date regulations. Gonna look into armourers.

New Met Police laws requires all guns (replica or otherwise) to be supervised by an armourer.
