INDEXPublic liability insurance for documentary self-shooter
2 years, 6 months ago - Katy McGahan
I'm about to start making a documentary, shooting mainly outdoors in rural places around the UK. One of the areas I'm going to be filming is owned by a charity and they have requested that I show proof of public liability insurance. I'm a self-shooter, (but might occasionally work with one another crew member such as a sound recordist or cinematographer) but mainly it'll be just me. Are there any documentary self-shooters out there who can recommend an insurance company who won't charge too much given that there won't be hired equipment and a film crew?

I have all my business insurance through Hiscox - pretty simple and good service. You might find that public liability plus cover for your kit etc cheaper than you think. I pay £120 or thereabouts a year.

Hi, I'm with BECTU and get it through them. I find them very helpful and it's really simple to do. If you are with a union already, maybe check with them
