Recommendations for a slider?

10 years, 6 months ago - Karel Bata

Time to buy one.

I need something lightweight and portable - I can hire something bigger if needed. I'm quite happy with a bit of DIY, but it still needs to function like a pro model.

Something motorised for time-lapse would be fantastic, but that's likely a bit pricey.

Any suggestions? Cheers!

Very nice. But I need something that goes on a tripod. Light, portable, and easy to set up on my own on location.

Definitely the way to go for a cheap dolly. But I'm wondering if there's something new on the scene with sliders.

The Edeldrone slider sounds like exactly what you are looking for (at least for DSLR sized cameras) It's geniously smart, compact/portable and affordable. Nothing else I know of that does what it does.

If you're up for DIY, how about Shooting People's own Dan Selakovich's DV Rigs book? http://www.dvcamerarigs.com

I have been happy working with products from both Kessler (3ft) and Glidetrack (100cm) however, they both tend to be fairly costly, in particular if you need to motorize it. I did a b-roll in Australia in 2013 where the DP used a 'Syrp' motion control together with a DIY rail - pretty sure he rented the syrp though.
