INDEXRecommendations for camera hire insurance
10 years ago - Michael Chandler
Hi all
We have a camera and sound equipment we're hoping to hire out in our shooting downtime, and was hoping someone could make some recommendations about good and affordable insurance companies to cover this.
Any advice appreciated!
Thanks

A lot of hire companies put the onus on the hirer to prove they have adequate insurance in place to cover not just equipment value but also lost profit if it takes time to rebuy the kit. It'll come down to conracts, so maybe do a hire from a professional rental place to see what a sample contract is like before consulting your lawyer.

Performance Insurance (i think via Aviva) provides good overall cover and I use them when I need additional liability cover too because combined - they're cheaper. But for just "hired-in equipment" cover, Essex Insurance are the cheapest I've found to date.

I just used Performance Insurance, who covered £20,000 worth of kit I just rented for a weekend for about £98. That would give a month of insurance.
Its true that rental insurance is usually done by the renter (it should be covered under their production insurance which most non-amat projects should have. They should provide proof when they rent.
Here is VMI's suggested insurance sources, there are many here.
