Robert Redford and Sundance

Hi all,

You’ve probably heard Robert Redford has died, and we thought it might be worth giving some background on Sundance for any Shooters who might not know the core story.

After directing Ordinary People (and bagging an Oscar), Redford saw indie voices getting squeezed by the blockbuster machine. His response? Founding the Sundance Institute in 1980 and later the Sundance Film Festival (named of course after his outlaw character), that gave filmmakers a place to experiment, grow, and get seen. Many generations of filmmakers got their start at Sundance and it remains a pivotal festival for indies.

Here too is a good read on how it all got started: https://shorturl.at/D6ubq
