INDEXSeeking a studio in London with character
10 years, 2 months ago - Bryce Groves
I'm looking for a low- to mid-budget studio in London to shoot interviews, that's not the usual white cyc or trendy-shabby brick walls; something with some professional yet friendly character?
Thanks

Sohost is dead centre of Soho and has unique decor and atmos, great people too - who look after their guests with lots of coffee and cakes. They have a roof terrace too, with a Soho roof top back drop - great for interviews. www.sohost.co Call Yolande on 020 7849 4500

Maybe you don't actually want a studio, as they're pretty much universally bland for you to build a set/dress inside! That said, there are houses and funding and all sorts of funky locations rented out by the hour for photography - maybe one of those would do? Or if you have an idea of what look you're seeking - maybe it'll help people think of suitable locations? :)

Thanks guys, good advice. I've been looking at shootfactory.co.uk…probably expensive but good inspiration.

Hi Bryce,
Sands Studios: sandsfilms.co.uk
In London is a really interesting space with lots of quirky corners and backdrops. They shot the interviews for touching the void in there. Having shot a lot of interviews for various docs, I would avoid Paddy's "funky locations" for one reason; sound quality. It's great to get a nice looking location but getting really good sound is so important and all kinds of noises that you wouldn't consider, can intrude and cost time and money in post. That's why people use sound proofed studios.
Sometimes you can find mid to low budget recording studios that have an interesting looking "live room" available for a few hours in the day, good for sound but they tend to be basement's and need to be lit.
