INDEXShooting in Europe?

Shooter James Griffiths, shot his Bafta winning short Room 8 in Poland because the UK was too expensive.
They had very decent budget to start with (40k for winning the Bombay Sapphire film competition we supported), but at the same time, they squeezed miles and miles more production value by deciding to film there. The results are fantastic.
Has anyone else got experience of either production or post in europe (or indeed elsewhere) that has been much more efficient. And been a great experience. Be great to hear.

There is a certain scale where it can be cost-effective - but you need to factor in hotels, travel, international calls, etc. And of course a short is ineligible for tax credits, which make the UK more competitive again. Personally I like to keep the work in the UK where possible, pay UK crew, keep the cash in the UK economy and industry.
That said, you can record a score with an orchestra in Eastern Europe for a competitive rate, for instance.
