INDEXShooting tips for a sex scene
10 years, 5 months ago - Sean Kelly
Hey Folks
I’m shooting a necessary sex scene for my short film, ‘Its’ Just A Shag!’ and am looking for any tips for creating as safe a space as possible for my actors.
The scene will not be gratuitous and I’ll be developing the storyboards with the actors so that everyone is comfortable with what is being shot and seen.
It’ll obviously be a closed set with only the actors, myself, DOP and sound recordist involved in the shooting. Unfortunately the crew are all male - I wondered about having another female in the room to pass the dressing gown to the actress between shots…
I’ve had discussions with people about flesh coloured knickers and the like and wondered if there was a specialist place to buy these. Also, what about something to maintain the dignity of the actor - I was thinking a sock and some tape (!), but am wondering again if there’s something specialist to buy somewhere.
Any thoughts on the process gratefully received.
Cheers
Sean

'Shooting tips' pffffffft!
Body stockings, pasties, CGI are all acceptable ways to go - but so is shooting around the problem - lots of suggestive angles, wound up duvets and sheets, tousled hair and sweat, emotional intimacy. In the interests of decency, all 'bits' should remain covered at all times, and the actress must have her own people on hand TO PROTECT YOU from allegations down the road as much as anything.
DoP and director can use the monitors in video village in separate room, you only want essential personnel in there.
I can suggest a female makeup artist who also has a fairly broad mind and who might be valuable on set, PM if you want her details.

Cheers Paddy - sagely advice as always! I'll definitely be going for the suggestive, close-ups on faces, stuff like that.
