Sitcom writing partner wanted

10 years ago - Richard Felber

Hi,

I am looking for a sitcom writing partner who lives in London.

As a writer I have recently written for the radio comedy show 'The show What You Wrote' starring the Fast Show's John Thompson and I won the Lighthouse media one minute film competition with my short script 'The Boss'.

I have performed comedy impro for many years in London with various groups and I currently perform with the Time Out award winning comedy club "The Funnyside' resident impro group. As a comedy actor I have appeared on CBBC in the programme 'Agony'.

I am looking for serious writers who have some professional experience or have produced some well received work . Must have a flair for comedy and be passionate about creating believable characters. You should be easygoing, hardworking, able to have a laugh and give and take honest criticism.

So if you fancy a change of direction or as a sideline to your film writing then please contact us.

There is a big demand for well written sitcoms and a relatively small number of people writing them. (The biggest sitcom writing competition in the UK got only 136 entries this year). A lot of sitcom writers have gone on to make or write feature films as well so it's a great route into filmmaking.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Best wishes

Richard Felber

Hi Richard,

I'd be interested in discussing this with you. I've had a few sitcoms optioned, including a "near miss" (that I'm happy to spend hours complaining about the circumstances of) and radio sitcom pilot that was aired. Working with a partner might be a way to reinvigorate my sitcom mojo.

Full CV is on my website here: http://paulmarxuk.wix.com/paulmarx and you can reach me at paulmarxuk@yahoo.co.uk

Regards,

Paul

hi richard i would be keen to talk about collaborating...trying to write screenplays now but the bulk of my experience is in theatre writing ..often 'critcised' at time for being too much like sit com....A recent comment from the Royal Court Theatre...."We enjoyed the comedy and the deftness of tone to both plays, though for us Fun Run in particular felt like it might fit well within a televisual context." .....i know i can write funny ( not jokes) and have seen some dire sitcoms of late so idea of writing a good one appeals greatly....email me on joe@balancingact.org.uk...and i can send samples and my CV...joe

Hello Richard,
I'm also late to this party having only recently joined the site. You've probably found a writing partner by now, but I'm interested in any comedy type shenanigans, contacts, etc, etc. I've written for TV, film and performed live and not alive. Know producers, comedians, comedy producers.

I've just edited the latest draft of my feature film comedy script, for two leading film producers. It's funny and topical. I would be interested in sitcom, as I development produced many sitcom writers in my time as an indie producer, one of which got the attention of BBCTV.

Hi Richard,

Looks like you've got plenty of solid offers from experienced writers, but I thought I'd reach out anyway, since it never hurts to network. I'm an award winning comedy screenwriter currently writing kids films and TV shows for an Indian company called Fableizer, and also writing a TV pilot for Oscar nominated Echo Lake Entertainment (NEBRASKA) in the US, but I'm keen on finding a way into TV comedy writing in the UK.

My comedy feature KNIGHT KNIGHT came second in Final Draft's Big Break contest, wnning me a trip to LA. My script GIRK THE SLAYER was selected for the UKFC's Development programme and was later optioned by the former Head of Development at Aardman Animations. maybe I can send you a script to read?

Here's my website: http://horwoodger.wix.com/nickhorwood

I'm actually pretty busy at the moment, so I won't be offended if you don't get back to me!

Cheers

~Nick

10 years ago - Simon Birks

Hi Richard,

Hope all is well.

I co-wrote the comedy feature "The Search for Simon" (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2340076) which featured Tom Price (Torchwood), Sophie Aldred (Doctor Who), Simon Jones (Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy), Carol Cleveland (Monty Python), Chase Masterson (Star Trek).

I also wrote and produced web-series Last Contact (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3311842), which featured Norman Lovett (Holly from Red Dwarf), and Pooja Shah (Eastenders, Bend It Like Beckham). Episode 1 is watchable here (there are six 22 minute episodes plus 10 mini staff meetings) https://www.indieboogie.com/films/400

We have a feature in post that I wrote, and a couple of short films that are viewable (Tuesday's Mask & Folded).

I don't live in London, but I live near Worthing/Brighton so can always travel for meetings.

I write a lot, and enjoy working collaboratively. I'm not too precious, either. :)

I have a website http://www.simonbirks.com

Best wishes,
Simon

Hi! Yes, I am late... I'm Italian after all... but if you are still looking for a partner in crime, well let's not waste time here...

Firstly, I know that it is very hard to find a like minded person... I did kind-a try to find the same collaborator for a while but without luck. Finding a writing collaborator is like love at first sight... So anyway, before I start asking for your hand in marriage, let's see what I can do: Firstly check out a couple of sketches which I have written and directed:

https://vimeo.com/141237757
https://vimeo.com/139180301

Secondly, I have written a pilot for a TV Series some time ago which was 2011 Official Finalist at the Hollywood Screenplay Contest (it wasn't made in the end but I did have a couple of 'almost' moments):

https://www.hollywoodscreenplaycontest.com/contest/past-winners/2011-official-finalists

Finally, I am writing and I have written a number of specs (TV, Web, Film) which at the moment are in different stages/drafts. And, and, and although they are not comedy as such please check RESPECT 101 (thriller) & HAPPY BIRTHDAY MY DEAR (drama), they definitely show elements of humour/comedy. Please see: https://vimeo.com/user9847982/videos

Lastly, I am a professional Video Editor by trade. However, I would like to change career path and become a paid writer. I believe that Video Editing is key to structure and structure (I'm going to be boring now) is everything... or almost everything...

Anyway, my personal email is maxsappa1@hotmail.com maybe?

Funnily enough, I'm a weird hybrid currently looking for short comedy scripts to shoot this summer. So, to Richard and any of the other writers on this thread, do send a short script or synopsis along, or get in touch if you'd like to chat.

I'm not pitching for this job, but I'm very encouraged that there are some dedicated comedy writers out there doing their stuff. It warms my dark, comedic heart to know that you are all out there.

One suggestion when folks pitch for comedy writers / partners - it's always helpful to say what comedies / sub-genres you like. And dislike. There are as many sub-genres n comedy as in drama, if you think about it. Some you love, some you hate.
