Sleep (Short) - Summary
An NHS nurse barricaded in a hospital tries to survive a group of doctors slowly losing their minds due to a pestilence that has rendered them unable to sleep. As one of the 1% of people the disease doesn't affect, she tries to save herself and the last surviving patient from the doctor's reckless plans of salvation.
Inspiration: St. Maud, Blindness, 28 Days Later, Love, Death and Robots and His House
---------------------------------
I am looking for a scriptwriter to collaborate on creating a short script with and to flesh out the idea. I am thinking the film will be 10 minutes max so the story can be impactful, engaging and leave the audience wanting more. I guess what makes it an interesting challenge is where to start the story, what is kept in and what is removed, so I would love to chat with you if this is the kind of story you want to tell.
The idea was inspired by my own exhaustion and thinking about the COVID pandemic, and also the dancing plague of 1518 where there was a case of dancing mania that occurred in Strasbourg, where hundreds of people danced for weeks on end some even to their death.
I thought, what would be an extreme version of these three ideas? An insufficient sleep epidemic/ pandemic, which in itself is a very real thing and who is usually at the front line of these things in the UK? NHS nurses. I am intrigued about telling a story focused on a NHS nurse, as its not something I usually see, and also, I've loved recent films such as Hereditary, St.Maud and His House that focus on the female protagonist going through something horrifying. The story, I feel has legs as it deals with a real issue e.g. overstretched healthcare system, overwork, insufficient sleep, mental health etc but magnifies it with the horror and sci-fi elements. If this is something that speaks to you, please get in touch.

I would be happy to discuss. As a former junior doctor who once did a shift of more than 100 hours continuous duty I know a great deal about extreme stress under situations of desperate exhaustion

Hi Aliyu
I saw your recent post looking for a collaborator for this horror short and thought that I would get in touch as it sounds really interesting.
I am a female screenwriter myself with several horror shorts now under my belt. (See Imdb for more details on these.)
However, I also offer script editing, co-writing, and re-writes services on other people's short and feature film projects as well. (E.g. I have recently co-written on ‘Brightlingsea’ an upcoming supernatural drama, and script edited on ‘Blood In The Water’ which is more of a crime feature.)
Attached below is a link to my website with more details about both me and work. If you feel like you would like to chat further about this , please do not hesitate to get in touch.
Best Wishes

Sounds like a good idea, I would like to discuss and talk about it bit more if possible.
I haven't seen Hereditary or St Maud, but am told both are really good films.
The synopsis does remind me of insomina by Christopher Nolan and also Fight Club by David Fincher, which are both told from the point of view of an unrealible narrator or main protagonist, how lack of sleep ruins memory retention and cognitive ablilities and how that can be problematic in a medical practice sense, where percision of thought and actions are key to saving lives.
If you wish to discuss more or bounce some ideas of contact me via email archerno1@live.co.uk
Thank you
Morgan
