Sound levels on Tascam DR-40

10 years, 6 months ago - Glyn Carter

We have a Rode NTG-2 mic coupled with a Tascam DR-40 recorder. We're finding we have to push levels to 90% to get decent sound, and that's only working when we can get the mic in close and when we're in good quiet, indoor setting. Which is not always possible in the real world.

Anyone else had the same problem? Any suggestions? Upgrade the Tascam (to what?) Invest in a portable preamp to boost the mic signal? Which one?

Hi Glyn, check if the phantom power is activated on the Tascam, or try replacing the battery inside the ntg2. All the best,
Angel

Press menu, then rec settings, then level. What do you have that set at? It sounds like you have it set very low, -48dB for instance. Try it at -12dB and see if you still have the same problem. Good luck, Simon
