Starting out a documentary about being Raised on Porn. How to begin?

11 years, 5 months ago - James Dann

Hey all!

Am fairly new to all this.

I'm starting out creating a documentary about online porn and sex education in the UK called Raised on Porn. (www.facebook.com/raisedonporn)

We're working on a 0 budget, and am looking for some general advice as to how to get it out there and get some hype created, as well as any ideas of things that people would want to see in the documentary and stuff that I should check out.

Cheers all!

Hi James, a while back some academics produced a documentary based on interviews with prostitutes which I think did the festival circuit. If you are interested I could find out more?

I wouldn't worry about publicity until you've got a documentary. Start there, publicity will follow.

Remember a documentary still needs to be entertaining and it's common to peg a documentary on an individual's story and the jeopardy therein. It still needs an arc.

Step 1: Consider your audience. Who exactly are you making this Doc for, and for what reason. Then that should help inform on how to make it.
