INDEXSubmitting short film to festivals around the world?
11 years, 4 months ago - Neelu Bhuman
Hello Shooters,
I just completed my short stop motion animation film and am finding the task of submitting to festivals around the world to be nothing less than gargantuan! Please offer any tips, strategies, interns(?) that might help with this process.
Thank you so much in advance for sharing your insights!
Best,
Neelu

Hi Neelu,
I'm sure others will have more comprehensive answers but assuming you're UK based a great start is to use the British Council shorts support scheme list of key festivals. These are strategically some of the best fests to get into and more importantly if you get into any of them you'll likely be (££) supported in travel to festival and receive other helpful support by them. A huge boost unless money's no object for you. :) See list below- looks like the Ottawa and Croatia are the places to be for animation. Remember many festivals will not choose you if you've already played other 'lesser' fests or festivals in their area/country so aim high in your first half year/year of submissions. My other personal recommendation is Slamdance in USA if you do not feel you're at full professional level yet- they do not have a premier policy, are incredibly supportive of filmmakers, you get two almost always sold out screenings, and they get actual 'real' media exposure. Also they have a tradition of supporting animation, especially more 'out there' stuff. Bill Plympton shows his new stuff there.
