INDEXTina, Ray, Omniscient SP Hive Mind/Single-Multiple Submissions
1 week, 5 days ago - Lynwood Shiva Sawyer
Hi, Guys,
Hoping to get this in before the deadline. :(
The Country Gentlewoman is a comedy short shot by a team of women at the University of Winchester, and thus eligible for Short / Comedy / Student / Women's / UK festival categories.
Many festivals have multiple categories. Is it better to submit the film singly to multiple festivals or to submit to multiple categories of a single festival?
All advice gratefully welcomed.

I don't have a massive amount of experience with festivals but my gut says get it into as many different film festivals as possible.
Check out filmfreeway.com if you haven't already, it has links to pretty much all film festivals.
You might be able to enter it for consideration under all the categories it's eligible for but it may only be shown under one.
A lot of film festivals have a theme to them, which might be genre, shorts, Female filmmakers etc, so the category you enter it under could be different from one festival to the next and give you more or less chance of winning.
So the comedy section of a student film festival may have less people entering it than the student section of a comedy festival, if that makes sense.
UK based festivals would obviously be a bonus because attending them gives you a chance to make connections in person.
When I entered my short into festivals, I went for a mix of comedy festivals, short film festivals and then some more general festivals, it won a few awards and even got shown during the Cannes film festival, which I unfortunately couldn't attend.
The "smaller" the festival the better chance of winning and they'll usually have a lower entry fee too.
Hope some of that is useful and good luck with the short.

This is great news, and it didn't occur to me that multiple acceptances in the same festival would still result in only a single screening.
Does cut down on the number and cost of submissions.
Thanks.
