Ukraine - organising, actions, resources

Hi all,

As we all know, it’s utterly devastating what’s happening to the people of Ukraine. Here are some initial actions that fellow filmmakers have sent in for us to share and help amplify. As you come across others, please post them in.

* TakFlix
The London Short Film Festival worked with Ukrainian film platform Takflix last year on a collaborative project showcasing female filmmakers from Ukraine and the UK. Their friends at Takflix are now calling upon the international film community to StandWithUkraine, and encouraging screenings of Ukrainian films. Practical support, film rights and logistics advice is available from the team and you can find out more here: https://www.shortfilms.org.uk/post/lsff-standswithukraine

* Real Ways that you can help Ukraine as a Foreigner:
This is a crowdsourced and very comprehensive list of official funds, requests, materials:

* ‘Tango With Putin’ (previously called F@ck This Job - renamed by the BBC for modesty reasons) is a powerful film about Russia’s only independent TV station, Dohzd. On Wednesday, the Russian authorities shut the station down & banned the film from Russian cinemas. The BBC has picked up the film and you can watch it now on Iplayer here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m00156cw/storyville-tango-with-putin. The founder of Dozhd is Vera Krichevskaya who is on twitter (@krichevskaya)

Any other organising you are doing, or voices you want to amplify, please let the community know.

From Miranda July:

'Along with the hourly news and pointless amounts of Twitter, I've been been reading the The War Diary Of Yevgenia Belorusets, a Ukrainian artist, writer and photographer in Kyiv right now. She writes each day – nine days in total so far. Her shocked, curious, up-and-down, exhausted entries feel quite near; you can find them at @_isolarii_ and Yevgenia's diary here: https://isolarii.com/kyiv

This was also an interesting read - https://britishcinematographer.co.uk/efa-icfr-launch-emergency-fund-for-filmmakers-in-wake-of-ukraine-war/

The IDFA, IFFR and EFA have all teamed up to provide a fund for filmmakers directly effected by the war offering small grants to help with relocation, legal and administrative costs.
