INDEXUnderwater camera hire in the UK, any recommendations?

Hello,
I'm looking for hire companies/individuals based in the UK that hire kit for underwater filmmaking. Ideally I would like to hire an HD camcorder with underwater housing (intended for use by a diver at depths of between 10-30 metres).
Any recommendations?

Hi Steve,
That's good to know, and thank you for recommending the company. I will get in touch with them and see what they can tell me. You're right, I think it's important we get some clear advice re legalities etc before, um, diving in (sorry..couldn't help myself). I'll mention that you recommended them.
Cheers,
Emma

Many thanks for all of your replies to my query, they are very much appreciated and have been very useful!
David - I'm a big fan of Trunks! I saw it at the Van d'Or Awards a few months back, it was my favourite film of the night. Thanks for sharing your experience and good luck with the rest of your underwater endeavours.

Hi Emma
I am facing a similar situation soon. As I diver I take with me an underwater stills camera and so my thoughts are that if I just need a couple of shots of something then perhaps I switch my amateur stills camera to video mode and record, but this depends on what you want to film of course.
Another project was an underwater film called Trunks and we were not being paid. It was all in a swimming pool and we just went ahead and did it. But if people are being paid, I understand the HSE requirements (but they involve stipulations such as certificated diver- camera person, safety diver and a safety person on land)

Hi Emma,
Saw your post this morning. This filming underwater thing can be quite complicated. The HSE are the UK's governing body and quite rightly are exacting and you could unwittingly wander into an HSE legal minefield if you ignore them.
But I am aware of a Southampton based Media diving outfit, The principle bods being the owner Bryan Stanislas & possibly still a Terry Scott with whom I last had contact over 10 years ago. But I believe they are now running under a company name of: H20 Films. I worked with Terry on a couple of tiny corporate promos. He's a really nice chap and knew his stuff. Brian whom I knew less welll has been instructing underwater for donkey's years and even runs u/w media courses now. Might I suggest you at least give them a call at H20 Films, explain what your hoping to do and get some good sound advice. Their website looks interesting and the company details are:Tel: 0845 260 7737 info@h20films.co.uk.
Anyway stay safe & good luck
