INDEXUploaded short film publicly on Vimeo but submitted it to Festivals - should I make private and wait for news from festivals?

I had to upload my short film online for a competition but now the competition is over I have submitted the same film to a couple of UK festivals.
The Festivals didn't stipulate they couldn't be publicly online but should I now make the video private?

You should definitely switch it to private. Most festivals are reluctant to take films into their programme, that people will pay to see, if said films can be watched online for free.

Gotta tell you fella, most festivals only accept films that are not in public domain. Some won't even accept it if it has been shown at other festivals. Make it private until it has run the festival scene.
good luck.

Following this I've also set a couple of my film to unlisted / password-protected, but I'm not sure it adds up: you give all you can to make a film and you need it to enable your next project. What helps? Online numbers. You have to keep the video private for months until the date given by one (selfish?) festival which has a rather low probability*impact factor. Meanwhile you lose momentum, and display poor numbers to potential producers. Every minute counts. I suggest the festivals option the films if they want exclusivity.

I would still keep it private. There's nothing worse for a festival when they watch your video and notice it's already been viewed a 1000 times. Festivals want to be the first to showcase your work and discover new talent. They tend to not to pick public films regardless of what the terms state. Also remember festivals are still a business and sell tickets to the public to attend, so they won't pick films that can be viewed online for free. There are exceptions but keep it private until you finish your festival run.
