Using images from video games in my short film.....

Hi everyone,
I was hoping one of my fellow shooters would be able to assist me with a query. I'll be directing my next short at the end of April and part of the script involves a moment where the title screen for a popular xbox zombie game is seen on a TV screen as somebody marches over and switches it off. I was wondering where that might stand with Copyright - if its not in-game footage, but rather the home menu would I still need any kind of clearance for this? Would the situation be the same if it was instead the title screen from a film DVD?

If anybody could point me in the direction of more info on this I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks

Ok, thanks Andrew, that shouldn't be too difficult.

Yep. You'd need clearance. In fact, you'd technically need clearance for showing the games console and the TV. In practice though, stuff like this seldom poses a problem but if it's in your film then it *could* pose a problem. Always better to mock something up on some generic no-name screen and hardware.
