I wondered if anyone knew what the legal guidelines are for using screenshots of Newspaper articles in documentaries. ie Copyright

You need to gen up on "fair use".

The images will almost certainly be copyrighted. However, nothing to stop you taking your own. The alternative is to buy images and rights from the likes of Getty, although this can be expensive especially if it's for TV.
